Description
Description
The more modern and colourful of the two is located on the ground floor and can sleep four, whilst the second, third, and fourth levels are dedicated to the other section and can house the remaining seven with a slightly more rustic touch. Cometogether to walk over four hectares of green, passing by fruit trees and the olive groves. Wait until you smell the aromatic herbs planted in the gardens, there’s nothing quite like it.
Take dining to a whole new level by having your meals – cooked in either of the kitchens – outside as you sit down under the covered terrace. Slip into the pool for a cool dip as you admire the rolling green hills before gathering around the most charming aspect of this home – the stone oven. Hundreds of years ago, this ancient structure would have welcomed shepherds in transhumance to stop there to bake their bread. This gives you the ideal chance to practice your dough-making skills – or, you can just head out to one of the surrounding restaurants instead. There’s a couple reachable by car in just five minutes. If you’re up for night swimming, head to the thermal baths of Cretone, seven-minutes away, but the stand-out activity would be golfing at the Marco Simone Golf Club where the prestigious Ryder Cup of 2023 will be held. There’s also go karting, horseback riding, and cycling to be done, and we couldn’t think of a better, or greener, surroundings for it.
Beyond Rome, there’s a tapestry of beguiling countryside and small, ancient towns to explore in Lazio. Tivoli, where waterfalls cascade from cliffsides and Roman aqueducts connect ancient villas, was created as a retreat from Rome for emperors centuries ago. Then there’s the beautiful spot where Popes spent their summers at Castel Gandolfo. At Cerveteri and Tarquinia, you’ll find Etruscan tombs dating back to over 700 years ago and ruins to rival Pompeii can be seen at coastal Ostia Antica. Those that enjoy a walk can hit the ancient Appian Way, following the first and most famous Roman road past crumbling columns and dramatic ruins. In the countryside, lush green hills flank shimmering lakes and rose-hued monasteries sit on craggy clifftops. There’s a stretch of coastline here too, punctuated with sandy beaches and vibrant coastal towns.
