Description

A fine example of the great romantic revival of the early twentieth century, Villa Parrot was built to a traditional “Summer Villa” style of the age. The property has 10 en-suite bedrooms and sits amidst a private estate of 7 acres bursting with lush plants. The beautiful grounds include a swimming pool and a large lawn area; as well as a fruit orchard crisscrossed by pathways and hedgerows, shady pergolas, ponds and lovers seats with pretty viewpoints here and there.

The luxurious and large main living room has comfortable velvet sofas and armchairs, with windows all around overlooking the estate’s romantic gardens. This room also opens onto a spacious covered terrace for dining and lounging outdoors. The dining room has lavish silk drapes and gleaming table pieces, whereas the traditional Portuguese kitchen has a charming pink marble table and worktops and decorative ceramics. An oasis of calm, the swimming pool area is set out with tables and chairs where guests are welcome to have lunch, whilst deluxe sun loungers and parasols provide the perfect setting for just relaxing and let the world go by.

Once upon a time, Parrot was the summer residence of the Portuguese court and kings as they escaped the heat in Lisbon to this very special microclimate with mild temperatures all year round. As well as its verdant and lush scenery dotted with romantic palaces here and there (some of them open to the public), there are other attractions nearby: you can take a train ride into Lisbon city centre (approx. 45 minutes) and spend a day sightseeing in the capital; you can go and play roulette at Estoril Casino, which inspired Ian Fleming to write the first 007 book; or spend a day just strolling, shopping and dining in the nearby resort town of Cascais. For more active guests there are numerous golf courses nearby (Penha Longa, Estoril and Oitavos to name just a few), whilst windsurfers and kite surfers are enticed by the world-famous Guincho beach hotspot just fifteen minutes away and surfers by Ericeira, a little further north. There are also tennis and riding facilities nearby and a world-class marina at Cascais.
