Description

Accessible only by boat, the estate captures the majesty and tranquility of a bygone Caribbean era. It is located on the small private island of Great Camanoe, with over 800 linear feet of private coral reef waterfrontage on the edge of one of the BVI’s leading dive and snorkel destinations (Diamond Reef).

Originally built by the Upjohn family in the 1960s, the current owner worked closely with local BVI architect Thor Downing of Roger Downing, LLC to modernize and extensively renovate the estate in 2014. Every detail of the property’s design, decorating, and provisioning evokes the peacefulness and quiet charm of life in the old Caribbean, and seeks to create a balance between classic elegance and barefoot relaxation. The stones used to construct the estate’s buildings and paths were hand quarried from the property over the last two generations. The Estate includes a large herb garden, greenhouse full of fresh vegetables and eggs from its very own hens, which allow you, your family, or your chef to create healthy and delicious meals during your visit.

With more than 12,000 square feet of native stone buildings under roof and an additional 18,000 square feet of verandas and verdant walkways, the property is more than a villa; it is a private homestead of buildings intermingled with welcoming paths and outdoor spaces, nestled among ten terraced acres of lush gardens.

The estate sleeps up to 14 guests, with eight full baths, and two half baths. The property’s seven main buildings are perched from 15 to 150 feet above the Caribbean Sea, each looking out towards the Northeast Tradewinds through oversized cedar windows and doors, each created by local craftsmen. They offer views of Marina Cay, Scrub Island, Beef island, Round Rock, and Spanish Town on the Island of Virgin Gorda to the east
